Akhil Gogoi Tests COVID-19 Positive

Pratidin Bureau

Peasant leader Akhil Gogoi has tested positive for COVID-19 today. He will be moved to GMCH for treatment.

Although he was tested negative in the previous test, he has turned out positive for the contagion this time. He was found to be carrying the virus when subjected to Antigen Test today.

Gogoi was an inmate of the Guwahati Central Jail, a prison which has been declared a containment zone today in light of many inmates getting infected with the virus. Around 30 inmates of the said jail, as per sources, tested positive for the virus today.

Two of Gogoi's associates Dharjya Konwar and Bitu Sonowal have already tested positive.

The alleged inhumane treatment meted out to Gogoi and his associates has sparked a row across the state.

Yesterday, Chief Advisor of AASU Samujjal Bhattacharjya and General Secretary of the organization Lurinjyoti Gogoi in their individual tweets accused the government of meting out inhumane treatment to the peasant leaders. They also demanded the immediate release of the leaders, other than advanced treatment for them.
