Akhil questioned by Police

Pratidin Bureau

The Assam Police at Kokrajhar today quizzed KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi for allegedly making "inflammatory anti-national speech in a recent public meeting at Kokrajhar.

This afternoon Akhil Gogoi presented before police and recorded his statement denying the charge he made any anti-India statements.  Allegedly police said that he made "anti-national" remarks in a public meeting at Salakati in Kokrajhar district organized by the All Bodo Minority Students' Union (ABMSU).

In return, Gogoi said, "The allegations are false and intentionally brought against me. No anti-national comments were made in the meeting. We wanted justice for ABMSU president Lafikul Islam Ahmed who was shot dead on August 2nd, 2019."

Lafikul was shot dead in Kokrajhar by unidentified assailants in Assam's Kokrajhar district. Two motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire from an AK-47 rifle at Ahmed while he had gone to buy tiles at a shop in Titaguri Market, killing him on the spot and seriously injuring the shopkeeper.

Akhil Gogoi is working overtime in this area to defeat BJP backed candidate Prameela Rani Brahma. However there is some problem as main Muslims groups loyal to Badaruddin Ajmal and his party AIUDF are supporting U G Brahma, bete noire of Hagrama Mohillary, while Akhil Gogoi is trying to maneuver the Muslims votes loyal to the ABMSU to the Congress candidate Saba Rabha.

There is a four-corner contest between BJP backed Prameela Rani Brahma(BPF), U G Brahma(UPPL), Naba Sarania(Ind)  and Sabda Rabha (Congress).
