Amingaon Residents’ Stage Protest, Demands Water Supply

Pratidin Bureau

A drinking water scheme under the Public Health Department in Jalukbari constituency went in vain as the scheme remains dysfunctional for years, and the people of a village under the constituency have been deprived of getting a drop of drinking water.

The Joyguru water supply scheme which was started in 2008 to provide pure drinking water p 3000 people was dysfunctional for six years. The people now have to depend on the water streams. A local alleged that they don't get water even to drink. "Getting a drop of pure water is like getting gold for us. The water supply scheme has been dysfunctional for 6 years and we take water from the water stream. Water is an important part of day-to-day life and if we don't get the water our work remains pending for the entire day. Therefore, we bring water from the water stream which is very dirty but we have no other option left than to bring water from the stream," the locals said.

The locals, therefore, staged a protest at Amingaon against the publichealth department and Himanta Biswa Sarma demanding to provide water supply tothe people immediately.
