Amit Shah advocates CAB in Lakhimpur

Pratidin Bureau

BJP national president Amit Shah on Sunday once again advocated the much debated Citizenship (Amendment) Bill that lapsed in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday (February 13). Addressing the members of BJP Yuva Morcha in Lakhimpur, Shah said that if not implemented, the CAB will adversely impact the people of Assam. "If Citizen Amendment Bill isn't implemented, it will adversely impact the people of Assam," said Shah.

The BJP president paid tributes to Moneswar Basumatary and other CRPF jawans who lost their lives in the Pulwama attack in his speech and said that their sacrifices will not go in vain.

During the rally, the saffron chief also lashed out at previous Congress government in both Centre and in the State. He also took a dig at regional party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) that recently snapped the tie with BJP.

"We are committed to the development of the entire Northeast which is why the Congress has been wiped out of the region," said Amit Shah. He also said that Modi government has brought several schemes for welfare of the people of Assam as well as Northeast.

Shah reiterated Modi government stand on implementing Clause 6 of Assam Accord. "The Congress and AGP government were not able to do anything about Clause 6 of Assam Accord, which was made to safeguard the interests of the Assamese culture," he added.

Shah further said that 2,700 villages were not electrified in Assam even after 70 years of independence. "Now all the villages of Assam are electrified," claimed the party president.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also spoke during the rally. Shah left Lakhimpur after the rally to inaugurate the construction work of State BJP office in Beltola, Guwahati.
