Asom Mala Project: Road Works Worth ₹3,000 Cr Undertaken By Govt

As a part of the Asom Mala project, road works of nearly Rs 3000 crores have been undertaken by the state government, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday.

In a meeting held between Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Public Works Department, at least 37 per cent of construction of the bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati has been completed, while, the remaining construction of the bridge is expected to be concluded within March 2023.

The government is expecting to inaugurate the bridge two months ahead of its schedule.

The minister also informed that the alignment process of the Palasbari-Sualkuchi Bridge has also been completed.

Six important roads will be constructed across the state under the Asom Mala project.

Meanwhile, construction of 44 kilometres of roads has been complete, the minister added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the state in February, this year, laid the launched 'Asom Mala', a programme for state highways and major district roads, at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur.

The Prime Minister said that modern roads and infrastructure has a major role in increasing Assam's capabilities. Keeping this in mind, 'Asom Mala' has been started in line with 'Bharat Mala Project".

Narendra Modi had said that during last few years thousands of kilometer long roads and many bridges have been constructed in the state.

He expressed hope that Asom Mala project will fulfil the dreams of the state to have a network of broad roads and connectivity for all villages and modern cities.

 "These works will gain new momentum in coming days as unprecedented emphasis has been placed on infrastructure in this Budget for rapid growth and progress", said the Prime Minister.
