Assam CS Orders Strict Enforcement of Mask-wearing

Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna has made wearing of face cover/mask mandatory and directed the Commissioner of Police (City) and all Deputy Commissioners to strictly enforce social distancing and wearing of face mask in public places in your respective area of jurisdiction.

You are to ensure that face masks are worn in proper manner to avoid spread of COVID-19. Violators are to be immediately proceeded against under relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act and IPC. This may be treated as extremely urgent and important, Krishna said in an official statement.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday directed the Chief Secretary to take necessary steps for enforcing strong action against violators of COVID-19 protocol including those who do not wear masks and maintain social distancing norms.

The Chief Minister asked the Chief Secretary to issue a direction in this regard to the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police in a meeting held at his office conference room to discuss the COVID-19 situation in the state on Monday.
