Assam Government releases Rs 99 crore for retirement benefits of tea workers

Government of Assam on June 05 released an amount of Rs 99 crore to Assam Tea Corporation Limited (ATCL) for clearing the retirement benefits of its employees.

Addressing a press meet, state Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the released amount shall help more than 16,000 retired employees, including many who had retired 20 years back.

"This is the fulfillment of yet another promise made in the budget" he added.

Sarma also informed that the ATCL has signed an MoU with the Industry Department for undertaking steps towards bringing fiscal discipline.
