Assam Govt Prohibits Strikes In Oil & Gas Sectors For 6 months

The Assam government on Tuesday prohibited strikes in the state for a period of six months in the oil and gas sectors.

As per an official notification, this comes into effect from July 7, 2021 till December 31, 2021.

The notification states that officers, workmen, contract labour, tanker, driver and khalasi involved in the service in the oil and gas sector falling within any service in any Oil field if Refinery of any establishment or undertaking dealing with the production supply of distribution of petroleum and petroleum products including natural are prohibited from organizing strikes for the given period.

"The order has been issued on public interest under the provisions of Essential Services Maintenance (Assam) Act, 1980," the notification further stated.
