Assam plan for new Chief Secretary goes awry

Pratidin Bureau

Assam's big plan for the next Chief Secretary has gone for a toss as the next in line Additional Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna has got embroiled in the Aircel-Maxis case as the CBI filed charge sheet against former finance minister P Chidambaram and his son Kanti Chidambaram.

Sanjay Krishna was a joint secretary in the Finance Ministry when P Chimbaram was his head. The Charge sheet named all the top officers of the Finance Ministry of that time but out of them only two are still serving and Krishna was not only one of them two but was also tipped to be the next Chief Secretary.

Now that plan has gone awry as the Chief Secretary's posting has to get clearance from the Central Vigilance Commission(CVC) and Sanjay Krishna is unlikely to get that soon to be the next Chief Secretary.

Till now Sanjay has a controversy free stint both at the State and Centre and considered to be an upright and efficient bureaucrat.
