Assam Rifles soldier held for shooting jawan dead

An AssamRifles soldier died after a jawan opened fire at a central force base in aschool at Bagnan in Howrah district on Thursday, killing one assistantsub-inspector and seriously injured two other jawans.

 According to reports, Assam Rifles jawan LakshmikantBarman who opened 13 rounds of fire from two Insas Rifles at the camp.

The deceasedhas been identified as Bholanath Das, an Assistant Sub-Inspector of the 7thBattalion of Assam Rifles, while those injured are Anil Rajvanshi and RantuMoni Bodhak.

Barman, whohailed from Nalbari district in Assam, opened indiscriminate fire following ascuffle with other jawans. An FIR has been registered, and Barman has beenarrested.And police could successfully arrest the accused.

According topolice, Barman was inside a classroom where four to five people were staying.The accused got into a fight with the fellow soldiers inside the room. Heallegedly snatched a rifle from one jawan and opened fire.

"It was apersonal fight. The jawan was under mental stress," said a police official.

After theincident, a huge police contingent was deployed in the area.
