Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that the Lakhimpur Medical College will start from November 2020. The medical college has been constructed with a cost of Rs. 378crore.

Speaking on the occasion of ceremonial distribution of appointment letters to 201 staff nurses of Lakhimpur Medical College at GMCH Auditorium, the minister said that every year two medical colleges will be set up in Assam. He said that the Dhubri and Nagaon Medical Colleges will start from next year.

The minister also announced that Biswanath Chariali, Goalpara, Karimganj and Charaideo will also have medical colleges soon.

He further stated that Guwahati will also have its second medical college adding that the course for the first year of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Changsari will be started from November.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister further added that there will be 17 cancer hospitals in Assam. He also said that the seat for medical science has been increased to 1000.
