The Hooch tragedy in Assam was one of the major incidents which had cost lives of more than hundreds due to officials' negligence.

Pertaining to the incident, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has urged officials to launch a campaign against sale and consumption of the illicit and spurious liquor and has also directed DCs of all districts to ban sale of 'Lali Gur' (molasses).

The CM chairing a meeting with officials to discuss the Golaghat Hooch tragedy at Janata Bhawan, Guwahati, directed officials to provide shelter to orphaned children under Juvenile Justice Act and to look after their well-being.

According to reports, one of persons behind the Lali Gur business, Mahesh Beria has been arrested from Jonai.
