The Barpeta Police launched a joint operation with Hajopolice to recover a newborn from Khupanikuchi area under Hajo region onSaturday night. The newborn was allegedly being sold to a couple inKhupanikuchi.

According to reports, one identified as Iman Alikidnapped the newborn from Bahmura area under Barpeta district. Later, Imanalong with one identified as Hasanur Ali sold the newborn to the couple inKhupanikuchi for a sum of Rs. 30,000.

After suspecting Iman's involvement in the incident,the locals questioned him and set his vehicle on fire. They even thrashed Iman.Later, police reached the spot and detained Iman. Based on Iman's statement theBarpeta police launched an operation in Khupanikuchi area to recover the baby.

Police also detained the couple, who bought thenewborn. The couple has been identified as Abaidul and Nurjahan. However, themastermind of the incident, Hasanur Ali is absconding.
