BJP is No. 1 party of Assam: Ranjeet Dass

Pratidin Bureau

The Assam State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Sunday said that the saffron party is the number one nationalist party of Assam. Dass along with Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also criticised All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and its leader on Sunday.

"We are the number one nationalist party of Assam, as we respect Assam Accord and our government in the Centre has formed a committee to implement Clause VI of Assam Accord," said Dass.

Commenting on AASU's title to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal as 'Jatiya-Nayak', Rajeet Dass said, "AASU has not given any certificate or memento to CM Sonowal, so there is no question of returning the honour." He further added, "Sarbananda Sonowal is people's Jatiya-Nayak, AASU cannot object that."

On the other hand, Himanta Biswa Sarma took a dig at AASU general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi and said, "I am not depressed. I am the Finance Minister of the State and I have presented a wonderful budget to the people of Assam." He also said that he will be visiting Ganges for the holy bath during the Kumbh Mela, and asked Lurin and other members of AASU to come along with him to cleanse their sins.

He further took a jibe at former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and commented, "Tarun Gogoi should take a rest after yesterday's Prime Minister's meeting at Changsari."
