Boat capsizes in Barpeta, 5 missing

Five persons on Monday went missing while six others were rescued after a country boat capsized in the Beki river at Kalampur near Kalgachia in Barpeta district. According to sources, 11 people were on board when the boat capsized after it was hit by a big wave in the middle of the river.

Some of the passengers managed to swim to the shore while a few others were rescued by locals.

Five persons including three children were swept away by the strong current. The five missing persons have been identified as Saniyara Khatun, Nargis Sultana, Iqramul Hassan, Samad Ali and Sayed Ali. Personnel of the Fire & Emergency Services have launched a search operation to trace the missing persons.
