Bogibeel Bridge named ‘Birangana Sati Sadhani Setu’

Pratidin Bureau

Bogibeel Bridge has been making headlines off late for its all ready to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25, 2018. But it has also been in the headlines for what it should be called by.

Transport Department of Assam has issued a notice to the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) stating that the nomenclature of the bridge be read as 'Birangana Sati Sadhani Setu'.

It may be noted that earlier Wikipedia displayed the name of the rail and road bridge as Bogibeel Bridge/ Chao Lung Suo Ka Pha Samannay Setu. This had stirred quite a few hush-hush after which NFR confirmed that no such decision had been taken until transport department's recent order.

The longest rail-cum- bridge in India, which is 4.94 kilometres (3.07 mi), over the Brahmaputra river in Assam between Dhemaji district and Dibrugarh district has shortened hours of travel to just a couple of minutes.
