BPF Seeks UTC Status For BTC

Pratidin Bureau

Bodoland People's Front MP Biswajit Daimary on Monday demanded the BJP-led central government to give Union Territory Status (UTC) to Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

Daimary also extends his party's support for scrapping of Article 370 and 35A of the Constitution, which provided constitutional safeguards to the people of Kashmir.

"This is a historic moment for the country. I congratulate the Amit Shah and the Prime Minister to take a bold decision and to make Jammu and Kashmir a Union Territory." Daimary said in his statement.

He said that if after 15 or 20 years, Jammu and Kashmir sees peace; statehood can be given back to the region. There are many communities in the northeast region which want separate states citing the example of Bodoland.

"The activities of Bhutan and China can be monitored if the BTC area is given UT status": Daimary emphasized

"The situation in Jammu & Kashmir was getting out of hand, and thus, there was a need to change the administrative structure in the State to control the situation", he added.
