BSF official, wife declared foreigners: Jorhat FT orders arrest

The Jorhat Foreigners' Tribunal has ordered Assam Police toarrest BSF official Muzibur Rahman and his wife, who were declared foreignerson Friday. The development came just days before the final publication of theNRC list in Assam.

Rahman is a resident of Udaypur-Mikipatty in Golaghatdistrict and is currently posted in Punjab as part of the 144 battalion.According to sources, he and his wife were initially marked as "doubtfulvoters" by NRC authorities and referred to the Jorhat tribunal.

According to reports, the official had learnt about thejudgement only when came home on leave last week. It has also come to lightthat Rahman has moved the Gauhati High Court against the FT's judgement.

Earlier, a retired army soldier Mohammed Sanaullah was alsodeclared a foreigner by a Guwahati tribunal and had been sent to detention campin Goalpara. Although, the Gauhati High Court granted bail to Sanaullah, he isstill fighting the case in court.
