Amid the rising protestsagainst contentious Citizenship(Amendment) Bill, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), the ally of BJP in Assam,reiterated its stand against the Bill. However, the party leaders expressedthat they would not snap the ties with the BJP regarding the issue.

AGP on Thursday formed a students' organisation named Asom Chatra Parishad. While interacting with the reporters, the AGP leaders including Manoj Saikia, Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Satyabrat Kalita said that they will hold discussions regarding the CAB in party meetings and will continue to oppose the bill even after being in the alliance with BJP.

Earlier, the AGP had snapped the ties with BJP regarding the issue and later again joined the alliance prior to the Lok Sabha election.

On the other hand, the AGP leaders welcomed the Centre's decision of not disinvesting the NRL and said that the party would oppose any such move in the future.
