CAB will be placed in RS as Supplementary: Ram Madhav

Pratidin Bureau

The BJP will bring the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) as supplementary in the Rajya Sabha and most likely it will be brought on February 12, the penultimate day before the Rajy Sabha adjourned sine die.

This was today confirmed by the BJP General Secretary Ram Madhab while talking to new agency UNI at the side line of the ASEAN meeting at Guwahati yesterday..

The ruling party has numbers to pass the bill. Although the margin is very thin but the BJP can orchestrate abstention to make the margin wider.

Anticipating this move, the entire anti-CAB leadership of Assam were today at New Delhi meeting various political leaders and most important of them was with the Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

From NESO to 70 organizations led by the KMSS and the prominent intellectuals like Dr Hiren Gohain and Haidar Hussian today called on Rahul Gandhi in a bid to stall the bill.

At the moment there are 122 pro CAB votes and 120 against it. But 18 members from SP, BSP and NPF are likely to abstain either way to make it 121-103 in favour of the Bill.

The BJP's strategy is to pass the bill on February 12 and as the Metric and board exam start from February 14 in Assam which means the protest against the Bill will be bound to be subdued till the Election.

The exam season will end on April first week and by then the General Election will commence in Assam.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to the North East on February 9 with a slew of big ticket announcement to the North East when he will address a mega rally at Amingaon at the outskirts of Guwahati,  laying the foundation stone of a new Brahmaputra bridge and the Bhumi Puja for the proposed AIIMS, said the Assam health minister D Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The BJP has gone out of the way to make it as the "largest rally every seen in Assam".
