CAB Will Protect Persecuted Minorities: Sonowal

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday exuded confidence that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) will be passed in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and will protect the religious minority communities- Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, Parsis.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Citizenship Bill in the Lok Sabha today amid protests in Assam against the bill.

Sonowal said that it was a commitment since 1980. "Ibelieve through this bill that we are going to protect the religiouslypersecuted six minority communities Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs,Parsis," said Sonowal.

He said that the bill will definitely ensure citizenshipto those sections of people. I believe this will definitely solve thelong-standing problem, the CM said.

He further stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have taken initiative to ensure constitutional safeguards to the people of the country.

Sonowal reiterated that BJP is always honest to its commitment. That is why PM Modi and Amit Shah have been always taking initiative for the greater interest of the people of the country and for the national unity, integrity, and sovereignty.
