Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a meeting held in Lakhimpur, said CAB will not impact the interests of indigenous people.

Sarma's statement has assumed significance ahead of the winter session of Parliament when the BJP-led government at the Centre will table the CAB with an aim to pass the same both in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The winter session which will start from November 18, has the agenda of CAB.

 "The CAB will solve the problem of around 4 to5 lakh of people living in the State. We will be able to give the breakup ofthese people in the ensuing winter session of Assam Assembly. Out of the totalpeople to be benefitted from the CAB, two lakh are living in Barak Valley. Oncethe problem of these people is solved, Assam will be able to march ahead inthe path of progress," Sarma said.

Earlier,the Minister said that the present draft of CAB will be different from theearlier one.

"The present draft will haveprovisions to ensure that the unique cultural and ethnic identities of theNorth East are not endangered due to enforcement of the proposed CAB", Sarma added.
