Pratidin Bureau

A long standing demand of the people of Assam has been fulfilled as the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved construction of the New Bongaigaon-Agthori via Rangiya doubling (142.97 km).

The project is estimated to bear a cost of Rs. 2042.51 crore and is likely to be completed by the year 2022-23. Construction department of the Northeast Frontier Railway is responsible for the completion of the project.

As the traffic on the section between New Bongaigaon and Agthori is set to increase due to the commissioning of the Rangiya-Murkongselek Broad Gauge and Bogibeel Bridge new line, the doubling of this line is expected to ease the railway congestion.

The CCEA in an official statement stated that the project will generate direct employment during construction for about 34.31 lakh man days.

The approved doubling from New Bongaigaon to Agthori via Rangiya (142.97 km) will pass through Bongaigaon, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari and Kamrup districts of Assam.
