A number of villages in the Chhaygaon area under Kamrup district were inundated by incessant rain for close to 48 hours bringing normal business to a grinding halt and disrupting communication in most of them.

According to the weather department, Guwahati and its adjoining areas will receive heavy rainfall, which was described by the villagers in the Chhaygaon area as 'totally unexpected'.

Meanwhile, the water level in the Kalahi river has increased in the last 48 hours due to the incessant rain.
