City bus commuters face problems in Guwahati

In Guwahati, buses are the primary means of public transport. But commuters in Guwahati are facing severe problems on Tuesday due to scarcity of buses in the city.

The owners and workers of the city buses refused to follow the new guidelines issued by the District Transport Officer & Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, Kamrup, which ordered city buses to run without handymen. The private city bus owners went on strike on Tuesday after transport department seized around 17 city buses on Monday for not following the recently introduced guidelines.

Meanwhile, only a few ASTC buses were seen operating in the city on Tuesday. "I have to wait a long time for the buses to come and even then they are so crowded, it's almost impossible to get on it," said a Guwahatian.
