CM Sarma Says No Lockdown In Assam, Urges Everyone To Get Fully Vaccinated

Amid a slight surge in COVID-19 cases in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that there will not be another lockdown in the state. He however urged everyone to get themselves fully vaccinated.

"There will be no lockdown now, but everyone will have to take the vaccine," he told reporters.

It may be mentioned that the state is currently witnessing a slight increase in the COVID-19 cases after the Durga Puja celebrations.

Assam has been recording more than 300 positive cases on a daily basis since last week, with Kamrup Metro being the highest infected.

On Saturday, Assam logged 324 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the active caseload to 2,621. The positivity rate of the state has reached 0.81 per cent.

Three Covid-19 fatalities were reported, while, 219 cured cases were discharged.

The districts with the highest cases were Kamrup Metro (88), Barpeta (50), Jorhat (21), and Kamrup Rural (17).

The overall case tally of the state remains 6,08,450.
