CM Sonowal lays Foundation Stone of Rupsi Airport

Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday laid the foundation stone of Rupsi Airport under Parbhatjhora subdivision in Kokrajhar district. Laying the foundation stone, Sonowal said that the initiative will help people's dream come true by modernizing and developing the Rupsi Airport in the state.

Union Minister of Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha and Chairman of Airport Authority of India Guruprasad Mohapatra have also taken part in the programme through video conferencing.

The CM also assured the people that they will be able to see flights operating from Rupsi Airport by September 2019.

Located about 70 km from BTC headquarter Kokajhar and 15 km from Assam's Dhubri town Rupsi airstrip has remained defunct since 1980. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) had begun work to revive the airfield. Civil operations to the airport have begun the work under the Government's Regional Connectivity Scheme.
