CM Sonowal Thanks PM Modi for ‘PMGKY Extension’

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the extension of Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKY).

The PM on Tuesday announced that the PM Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana will be extended throughout India till Diwali. The Prime Minister said that the government will be providing free ration to nearly 80 crore people.

Taking to Twitter, the CM said, "Extension of PMGKY till November end & the 'One Nation, One Ration Card' will ensure food security to 80 crore people across India, reiterating PM Shri @narendramodi ji's commitment to the poor in this fight against #COVID19. My heartfelt thanks to PM Modi ji. #ModiCARES4Poor".

Addressing the nation today PM Modi said the extension of the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana will incur an expenditure of Rs 90,000 crore. The scheme will be extended till November.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the nation said that the government was actively working on One Nation One Ration Card Scheme. He said that the scheme is being developed so that those living outside their home states get the benefit of Public Distribution System (PDS).

According to the current system, ration cards are largely issued with a specificity of state. Though 'One Nation One Ration Card' system is taking root in the country, all states have not switched to it.
