Congress Stages Protest Against Onion Price Rise

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has staged a protest outside Rajib Bhawan on Monday against the soaring price of onion.

The Congress has protested against the BJP government's failure to control the price of essential commodities. The protestors are seen wearing garland of onion and raised slogans against the BJP government and food and civil supplies minister who has failed to control the market in the hike of price of onion.

It may be mentioned that the price ofonion – which started to rise around mid-September, has been given a furtherpush with vendors at city markets choosing to ignore the prescribed price list.

At Beltola market, most of thevegetables were being sold at a price higher than that is scribbled on theboard at the market. If some vegetables cost Rs 2 more, others were being soldat almost Rs 10 more than what the authorities had fixed.

Trade data showed retail onion pricesruling in the range of Rs 70-80 per kg in most parts of the country, dependingon quality and region.
