Congress workers join BJP in Guwahati

Pratidin Bureau

In a major setback to Congress in the State ahead of the coming Lok Sabha Elections, several Congress workers including former NSUI president Bibhuti Bhusan Borthakur and Congress leader Netra Ranjan Mahanta joined BJP at state BJP headquarters in Guwahati on Monday, barely 10 days ahead of the first phase of parliamentary polls in the State.

The Congress workers joined BJP in presence of Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Joining the saffron party, Bibhuti Bhusan Borthakur alleged the Congress leaderships of coming into a 'secret alliance' with the AIUDF. "We strongly opposed alliance with AIUDF, but the leaders went on to a secret understanding with Ajmal's party," said Borthakur.

On the other hand, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma slammed Congress party and its leadership and said, "Rahul Gandhi has fled to Kerala as he fears that Amethi voters will seek an account. Apart from Rahul, other Congress leaders like Gaurav Gogoi also choose minority dominated seat."

The Assam BJP also released 'Assam BJP Barta', a newsletter to reach out to the masses.

Meanwhile, as India heads towards Lok Sabha polls, BJP is making its hold strong in Assam with their alliance with AGP and BPF.
