The Sikkim government has decided to test all its ministers for COVID-19 after one of the ministers came in contact with an infected person.

Sikkim's local media quoted CM P.S. Golay as saying, "It appears that a Covid-positive patient from Rongli had recently come in contact with our Rural Development minister Sonam Lama and also met the Rural Development secretary. Hence, we have taken a decision on conducting tests on all our ministers and everyone who came in contact with them."

The CM also highlighted the fact that a blanket lockdown across the state, as suggested by many, is not considered at the moment as it would have an adverse impact on the state's economy.

However, lockdown has been imposed in the Pakyong and Rongli subdivisions of Sikkim as signs of community transmission were seen there, he added.

The CM ordered for clamping of complete lockdown in Rongli and Pakyong subdivisions from 6 am of July 15 to contain further spread of the contagion.

He also directed the administration to ensure that all the safety protocols and guidelines are stricty followed.
