Amid tight vigil, pilgrims and devotees from across the globe have thronged the Kamakhya temple atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati to offer prayers on the occasion of the Ambubachi Mela.

The festival,promoted as an integral part of 'religious tourism' by the government of Assam,began on June 22 with the closing of the temple doors for four days.

Lakhsof devotees have flocked the temple to attend the festival, which was formallyinaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on June 21.

TheCM had urged the people of Guwahati to play the role of hosts like the previousyears to make this year's Ambubachi Mela a grand success.

He also said that blessings of Maa Kamakhya enable devotees from around the country and the world to contribute meaningfully to sustain an environment of peace and harmony in the world.

Meanwhile, to attract the tourist, a floating Kamakhya Temple has been inaugurated by Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah on Saturday evening at the Amingaon Lake, near DC office of Kamrup district.
