Dhemaji Bombing | Verdict on June 20

Pratidin Bureau

More than 14 years after the 2004 I-Day blast at Dhemaji, a court on Tuesday said that it has decided to pronounce its verdict on June 20.

A total of 17 school children, including nine girls, were killed and 40 injured in the bomb explosion.

The powerful blast took place at around 9:00 am on August 15, 2004, at the entrance of the Dhemaji College when the official I-Day celebration of the district was about to begin.

After the blast, ULFA said that this was a big mistake. The blast also proved to be a turning point for the Ulfa's fortunes in the state, and it rapidly lost its base in areas that were once its bastion.
