Dhubri Girls’ College Turns Temporary Prison

Pratidin Bureau

With flood submerging the Dhubri District jail, 409 inmates (401 men and 8 women) were shifted to Dhubri Girls' College which will act as a temporary prison till floods in Assam recede.

The inmates were brought into the Girls' College on Monday (July 15) last.

It may be mentioned here that on Monday evening, floodwaters started gushing into the jail and the police and district administration had to choose a site.

Sources informed that the authorities would have shifted the inmates to the district library, but it was flooded too and finding no other option, they decided to choose Dhubri Girls' College- which 100 meters from the prison.

They would've opted for the Dhubri district library, however, that was flooded too. Thus, the college campus, which is barely 100 m from the prison was chosen.

Additional police company has been brought in from Panbari for help.
