Nine of the thirty-nine most flood-prone districts of the country is in Assam and Dhubri tops this list.

This was informed by the Ministry of State for Jal Shakti Rattan Lal Kataria on Thursday in Lok Sabha while referring to a report submitted by a committee headed by the Ganga Flood Control Commission (GFCC).

He was answering to a question posed by Dhubri MP Badruddin Ajmal.
According to the report, the nine most flood-prone districts (in descending order) of Assam are Dhubri, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Dhemaji, Barpeta, Jorhat, Goalpara, Sivasagar, and Nalbari.

As per the report, Dhubri's around 51.47 percent area is inundated.

Dhubri is followed by Lakhimpur at the second spot (within the state) with is 35.04 percent area remaining under water during monsoons.

Lakhimpur is ranked eighth (8) at the national level.

"The GFCC headed committee further reported that around 40 million hectares mass area of the country reels under flood," Kataria further informed the House.
