Dibrugarh | Municipal Board chairperson faces graft charge

Hitesh Dev Sharma, the secretary of the state urbandevelopment department (Assam) has summoned the chairperson of DibrugarhMunicipal Board (DMB) Soma Chakraborty on charges of corruption and financialirregularities.

The list of charges include improper maintenance of main cash book and logbooks for office vehicles, improper maintenance of the records of the urban local body's assets, irregularities in leasing out municipal lands, conduction of tendering process for allotment of market, parking, hoardings, etc without taking board's resolution and financial irregularities.

She has been asked to explain why section 298 of the AssamMunicipal Act, 1956 (power to dissolve the board) should not be imposed on theDibrugarh Municipal Board.

The chairperson of Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB) has beendirected by the secretary of the state urban development department to appearbefore him at the department's office in Guwahati on November 4.
