Digital India: Assemblies to go paperless

It'snever too late to be tech-savvy in the age of digital governance. With a viewto go paperless, Assam assembly speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami on Saturday methis counterparts from Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherryat the Assam Bhawan in Delhi and discussed the measures to implement e-Vidhanproject.

Paperless Assembly or e-Assembly is a concept involving electronic means to facilitate the work of the Assembly. It enables automation of the entire law-making process, tracking of decisions and documents, sharing of information.

Accordingto sources, functions like introducing bills, laying reports and answers toquestions in the House will be handled only through touch-screen-based computersystems. An MLA can use his touch-screen to scroll through the replies ofquestions and get the reports.

After discussion, Assam assembly speaker Goswami told media that the project would likely to cost around Rs. 10 crore in each assembly.
