Don’t fall prey to rumours | Nipah virus not yet detected in Assam

Pratidin Bureau

Rumours have been making rounds that cases of Nipah virus have been detected in Assam; however, Joint Director of Health Service (Malaria) Dr Umesh Fangshu informed that no such case has been detected in the state so far.

"We have also heard of rumours being circulated in Dibrugarh, Nalbari and Sonitpur but there is no truth in them" Fangshu said. "I don't think Assam would be affected by the virus so easily" he added.

Dr Amrit Baruah from Dibrugarh has filed an FIR at Dibrugarh Police Station against the circulation of such rumours. It may be mentioned here that Dr Baruah's name was mentioned in a message that became viral in social media.
