Elephant Electrocuted in Udalguri

Pratidin Bureau

A pale of gloom descended at Udalguri's Bhutiachang Tea Estate on Monday morning, after the locals discovered the body of an elephant in a cornfield adjacent to the Don Bosco School.

The animal was electrocuted on Sunday night.

Sources informed that on Sunday night a herd of elephant had ventured into the cornfield. Even though the locals heard frantic elephant cries in the night, however, no one dared to ventured out and check the matter.

The locals on Monday morning discovered the body and immediately a number of people burst into tears.

The dead jumbo was later given a mournful adieu by the villagers.

It may be mentioned here that even though 10 persons have lost lives in man-elephant conflict in the recent times in the area, however, this hasn't diminished the love the villagers have for the jumbos.
