Ex-SMCH Superintendent detained over Rs 3 crore scam

SilcharPolice has detained Silchar Medical College and Hospital's (SMCH) formerSuperintendent, Dr AS Baishya on charges of being involved in a SMCH financialscam.

Allegedly, the Rs. 3 crore scam occurred during the period of 2015-2018, pertaining to which Baishya had been suspended from his designation.

Theincumbent Superintendent, Dr Abhijit Swami had lodged a complaint against thescam and Dr Baishya.

It maybe noted that fourth grade employees, namely, Premananda Singh, Pappu Ravidas,Bidyut Barman along with few others, who had been arrested earlier, are nowabsconding.

The thenChairperson Dr Shilpirani barman had also been transferred.

However,during interrogation the accused fell sick at the Silchar Police Station. DrBaishya was admitted to SMCH at night while still in police custody.

Reportedly,Dr Baishya will be presented before the court today.
