Ex-Union Minister Yashwant Sinha criticises Modi government

Assam has been on the boil, since BJP-led NDA government in the Centre has passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha on January 8. In the meantime, former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha, took part in a discussion on the current situation in Assam on Sunday at an event in Guwahati.

Speaking on the occasion, Sinha said, "The Citizenship Amendment Bill is wrong and illegal from all perspectives." He also compared BJP with Kauravas of Mahabharata. "Now people only know Duryodhana and Dushasana of BJP," said the senior politician, who had quit the saffron party in April, 2018.

Sinha, who has been critical of the Union government on various issues, said that democracy today was in danger in the country. "Centre is undermining democratic institutions," he added.

"Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have been using strategies and tactics to manage media in the Country," said Sinha.

Several senior personalities of the State including senior journalist Haidar Hussain, Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, Prasanta Rajguru, AASU advisor Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya, maini Mahanta and Mayur Borah were also present during the event.
