Flood Victims Stage Road Blockade In Gauripur

The flood-affected people in Gauripur had staged a road blockade at 31 No National Highway demanding relief measures to the flood victims.

The people alleged that they have not received flood relief materials and therefore 5 percent of people who are affected by the flood had staged road blockade in the National Highway.

FormerMinister Mohibul Haque also participated in the road blockade programme.

As per the data of Assam State DisasterManagement Authority (ASDMA), the water levels in some of the districts havebeen receding and as on July 20, a total of 3,024 villages in 77 revenuecircles of 24 districts have been submerged under water affecting at least44,08,142 people. The affected districts are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath,Sonitpur, Darrang, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri,South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, Golaghat,Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Cachar and Karimganj.

Presently, 689 Relief Camps are operational inthe districts of Dhemaji, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang,Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon,KarbiAnglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Cachar and Karimganjdistricts with 1,31,586 inmates and 240 Relief Distribution Centres in thedistricts of Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Darrang, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, SouthSalmara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaon and Golaghat.
