Fund Allocated For Road Construction In Majuli Misused!

Pratidin Bureau

The Brahmaputra Board and TK Engineering have been alleged of misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs 237 crore, which was sanctioned for mitigating the erosion of Majuli- the Assembly constituency of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

It has been alleged that there has been a gross anomaly in the usage of central reserve funds allocated to the island constituency in 2016-17 for the construction of 16-kilometre-long Majuli-Haldibari Jengraimukh road. The fund allocated for the construction amounts to Rs 39 crore.

It has been alleged that during the construction of the said road, low-quality CC Road was purchased, whose cost is way below than the allotted amount of Rs 39 crore. It may be mentioned here that allegations of fund misappropriation in Sonowal's home constituency are not new. Reports about this alleged fund misappropriation in Majuli have been making news headlines over the past few months.
