Pratidin Bureau

The Gauhati High Court Bar Association has requested the Assam government to adopt a scheme similar to one launched by Kerala government. Under the scheme, young Kerala lawyers earn a  stipend of Rs 5,000 per month.

The request was put forward by the Bar Association during law minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya's visit to the high court on Tuesday afternoon.

The proposal to the government was raised K.K. Mahanta, President of the association. Owing to low remuneration for junior lawyers, Mahanta suggested the government on considering a monthly grant of Rs 5,000 to new lawyers for five years.

Bhattacharya asked the bar association to submit a detailed proposal to him after carefully studying the Kerala scheme and assured that he would consider the proposal
