GMCH delays handing over bodies of COVID-19 victims to kin

In a shocking incident, a corpse of a coronavirus infected patient who passed away on Monday evening was not handed over to the family by the authorities at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after 24 hours of the death.

In another similar incident, the corpse of another patient infected with COVID-19, Ramesh Chandra Deka, who passed away at 10 am on Monday morning, wasn't handed over to the family.

After continuous demands made by the families, the corpses were released on Tuesday evening.  Ramesh Chandra Deka's family has constantly tried to get in touch with the Assistant Deputy Commissioner Bipul Das but the efforts have been futile as the ADC did not answer their calls. Distressed, the family went to the deputy commissioner of Kamrup Metro for seeking help
