Govt. to connect Guwahati with ASEAN countries

State Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on Friday, said that government is planning to connect capital city Guwahati with six South Asian countries by the end of December.

Attending the ASEAN section of the 2nd Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said- "We are much focused to increase connectivity between Assam and South Asia. By the end of December, Guwahati will be connected with six capital cities of South Asian nations."

A tri-lateral highway has also been planned and construction is almost done. The bridges are only left. This will be from Afghanistan to Burma (Myanmar) via India – Patowary said.

An inter-country agreement to enhance waterways in the region has also been signed, he added.

Rail, road, water and air connectivity will contribute to the overall development of the region, he further said.
