Guwahati Households To Get Pipe Gas Connection

Once the construction of the new pipeline between Guwahati and Barauni in Bihar is completed by December 2020, then each and every household and commercial establishments in Guwahati are expected to receive pipe gas connection.

In order to supply piped natural gas in the city, Assam Gas Company Limited (AGCL), Oil India Ltd (OIL) and GAIL Gas Ltd (GGL) have signed a joint venture agreement on Thursday.

As part of the agreement, the three companies have formed a consortium to develop and implement the City Gas Distribution (CGD) networks in Guwahati and in Kamrup (M) district.

Apart from Guwahati, the CGD networks will cover four other districts in Assam in the first phase, and these districts are- Kamrup (R), Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj.

The pipe gas connection will also be provided in the four other districts in the first phase.

It may be mentioned here that under the project, around 4.16 lakh households are set to be connected with piped natural gas (PNG) in the five districts.

In addition, 72 CNG stations will be set up in these districts; out of which 51 CNG stations will be set up in Kamrup (M).

It is worth mentioning here that the PNG project, which will be set up in Kamrup (M) and Kamrup (R) districts, along with the CNG stations in Kamrup (M) district will be developed at an investment of around Rs 1,200 crore.
