Guwahati landlord brands tenant as witch, tries to kill

In a sensational incident in 21st century, a landlord tried to kill tenants- father and daughter in Guwahati. The incident took place at Dakshingaon in Kahilipara on Saturday night.

The tenants alleged that the owner of the house tried to kill the woman by a machete, branding her as a witch. Interestingly, the owner, Brajen Rabha is a police officer.

Originally hailing from Jorhat, the woman lives in Guwahati with her 80-year-old father. Meanwhile, the woman filed FIR against the owner in a nearby police station regarding the incident.

It should be noted that in July, President Ram Nath Kovind had approved the Assam Witch Hunting (Prohibition, Prevention and Protection) Bill, 2015, converting it to an Act. It imposes imprisonment of up to seven years, along with a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh, for branding someone as witch.
