Pratidin Bureau

Amid the coronavirus outbreak, the North Guwahati people have a ray of hope as the ropeway between Guwahati and North Guwahati will be launched soon.

The construction of ropeway has been completed and the longest ever ropeway in the country will be launched soon by the state government.

The netizens of North Guwahati demanded to start the ropeway soon as the Kamrup (M) district administration has suspended the ferry services due to the increasing level of water in the Brahmaputra River.

The officials and engineers of GMDA inspected the construction of ropeway before it opens for the public. The project of ropeway costs around Rs. 56crore.

The official of Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) while visiting the site said that the contract of ropeway service has been handed over to Samir Damodar Ropeway Company for one year. The company received Rs. 17 lakhs 10 thousand for the contract.

On the other hand, the state government released a fund of Rs. 4 crore 75 lakhs to GMDA for the ropeway construction.

Meanwhile, 58 CCTV cameras have been installed for the safety of the ropeway so that it could monitor the service every minute. It was further informed by GMDA that 60-65 people will be engaged in the ropeway.

They also informed me that it will take 7-8 minutes to cross the Brahmaputra from Guwahati to North Guwahati and vice-versa.
