Guwahati Railway Station the first in Northeast to completely run on Solar Power

The Guwahati Railway Station has now become the first of its kind in entire Northeast region to completely operate on solar power.

The 700 KW solar power plant for the station was commissioned in April 2017 and was built at an estimated cost of Rs 6.7 crore. According to the Railways, the solar power plant will save Rs 67 lakh worth of electricity.

The solar plant between generated 7,96,669 KWH of electricity between April 12, 2017 to May 10, 2018. The average daily generation of electricity stood at 2048 KWh.

The solar-powered station will help to reduce carbon-footprint as well as cutting down power costs. "The Guwahati railway station runs 100% on solar power. This is a first of its kind initiative for the North-East and has proved to be immensely beneficial," Pranav Jyoti Sharma, CPRO of North-East Frontier Railway said to Financial Express.
